HB 1481 Student Use of Cell Phones - CISD

Posted Date: 07/23/25 (03:36 PM)

📢 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: New State Law on Cell Phone Use 📵

Clarksville Tigers — we know this isn’t an easy topic, but it's the law.

Starting this school year, Texas House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using personal communication devices — including cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds — during the school day on school property. This law applies to all public schools in Texas.

We understand this is a big change, and we’re putting clear procedures in place to help everyone adjust.

What you need to know:
đźš« Devices cannot be used at any time during the school day.
đź”’ Devices must be stored according to campus policy.
📍 If a student breaks the rule, the device will be confiscated and held until a parent or guardian picks it up. A disciplinary consequence will also be applied in accordance with the student code of conduct.
📞 We will notify parents when a device has been confiscated.

Rest assured, every classroom and office at CISD is equipped with a phone that can be used in the event of an emergency. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Recent facility upgrades — including secured entrances, new locks, and reinforced doors — reflect our continued commitment to a safe and secure learning environment.

📄 Clarksville ISD’s updated electronic device policy will be released in the coming weeks before school begins.

Campus principals will review these expectations with students on the first day of school.

We appreciate your support as we follow the law and focus on keeping our school safe, focused, and student-centered. Let’s work together for a great year!
